Towards the end of last year I got my hands on a set of bamboo bed linen from Peony Living and have been meaning to tell you about it ever since. Sadly, the Christmas rush took over and I can’t quite believe that I am only getting around to this now… (insert all the shameful emojis here). Now it has to be said that I am a bit of a linen snob, so I was somewhat skeptical when I first laid eyes… Read more »
Where has a year gone? I cannot believe that Dubai Design Week is upon us already. Fast becoming one of Dubai’s most exciting fixtures on the events calendar, the programme for this year looks amazing. The trade show component of the event, Downtown Design, is in it’s fourth year and clearly gaining momentum. The fair takes place at Dubai Design District (D3) which is more developed this year with many shops, studios and cafes. A really cool place to visit with or without a design fair! Aside… Read more »
I didn’t know I was looking for love and then I found Dubailove. Er, sorry, I simply could not resist that one. But seriously, have you guys seen the awesome range of city souvenir goodies by newcomer, Dubailove? I discovered this awesome concept on Instagram a few months ago and have really enjoyed seeing the product range develop. As an avid lover of this awesome city I’m so thrilled to see a Dubai-inspired concept like this. And as you may know, I’m a sucker for stationery and anything… Read more »
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably already seen or heard that the new 2017 IKEA catalogue has arrived in stores. I was a little late to this party as I was down South in the homeland when my favourite paperback hit the UAE so I missed the media event and associated fanfare. Suffice to say I was experiencing a good dose of FOMO whilst hanging out in the bush – something I dealt with rather swiftly after my return to Dubai. After my recent visit to the Swedish HQ, having… Read more »
Last year IKEA launched a limited edition collection called NIPPRIG, which I loved and wrote about here. The ceiling light from that range was particularly popular and I am so glad to have secured one for my bedroom before they were all gone. I only wish I had grabbed more! So, I was super excited to learn that my favourite Scandi furniture giant has just released another fabulous limited edition collection. This one’s called VIKTIGT (have a go at pronouncing that, folks!) – and it’s the result of a collaboration with Swedish… Read more »
My lovelies, it’s been so long. Apologies for the radio silence around here – it’s been a very busy few weeks with lots of exciting projects on the horizon. You’ll be seeing more of that on the blog soon, but for now, I have something good to share. I couldn’t contain my excitement when I spotted a new online furniture store, Ebarza a few weeks ago. Another stylish online option has arrived in Dubai and it’s looking like we may soon be spoiled for choice. Ebarza retails well-priced… Read more »
It’s been a while since I’ve had a home tour on the blog so when I saw a friend’s gorgeous Downtown Dubai apartment, I had to show you guys too. Welcome to the beautiful home of Karen Wandrag, fellow South African and founder of DESIGN K. I recently had the pleasure of working with Karen on a design project, but more on that in due course. For now, let’s focus on this beautiful space. A qualified engineer and talented artist, Karen has lived in London,… Read more »
Last week this awesome city welcomed it’s inaugural Dubai Design Week, held in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3). For a city that always feels alive with possibilities, last week was particularly exciting with design related events, activities and installations seen across the city. Dubai has changed so much in the ten years that I’ve now lived here – it just keeps getting better!
A recent trip to Dubai’s awesome Marina Souq led to the discovery of Shenouk. Not to mention a subsequent fascination and blossoming love affair with the traditional art of Indian block printing.
Allow me to introduce you to Caramel and Sun – a stunning new kids concept store that has recently open it’s door’s in Dubai’s Mercato Mall. French co-owner, Olivia Corsi, is passionate about kids decor and accessories and has garnered an impressive selection of furniture and accessories from stunning European brands including Les Gambettes, Barnabé aime le café, Laurette, Nobodinoz, Mimi Lou, Les Petit Vintage, Ferm Living and Combelle, to mention a few.
Since I’m celebrating my blog’s two year anniversary this month, and because the folks at IKEA UAE are just really nice like that, they’ve given me a Dhs 500 gift voucher to give away to one lucky House of Hawkes reader!
Having been away for the past few weeks, I missed my much anticipated door drop of the new Ikea catalogue. Would you believe there is no Ikea in South Africa!? Yes, it’s a tragedy of epic proportions. Needless to say, receiving a copy of the 2016 catalogue was a welcome highlight on my return to a very hot and humid Dubai this week. As always, Ikea’s annual publication doesn’t dissapoint. The UAE stores are already stocked with some great new items – and… Read more »
Let’s have a show of hands for all the stationery lovers out there! … yup, I’m feeling you guys. If you’re anything like me, and the mere mention of stationery gets your heart racing a little (and somewhat awkwardly) faster than necessary, then you need to know about Typo. Australia’s favourite gifts and stationery brand has not only arrived in the region, but they’ve opened the Middle East’s first flagship Typo store at Dubai’s fabulous new Boxpark retail complex. As you’ve no… Read more »
My lovelies, I’m back! As you might have gathered, I’ve been on a little blogging vacay whilst at home in South Africa for three weeks. I made a rather impromptu decision to fly to Cape Town to surprise one of my besties for her 40th birthday party. With the kids Easter break thrown in, my quick trip turned into a rather lovely and lengthly holiday. We moved around a bit between the Cape and my home province, KwaZulu Natal – it was really… Read more »
The Bowery Company is a newly launched, Dubai-based online store that offers a growing collection of what they refer to ‘affordable luxury furniture with an industrial edge’, and frankly, it’s a perfect description. Think old world New York meets contemporary Scandinavian style and you’ll get an idea of the direction this unique new concept is taking. It’s a breath of fresh air, and with plenty of metallics on offer, I was very easily wooed. Here’s my take on a few must haves. I only wish I could… Read more »
Earlier this month I shared a list of new stores I’ve discovered along Umm Sequiem Road in Al Barsha. I’m boldly calling it Dubai’s new interiors district. If you missed it, take a look. For those who’ve already seen it, I’ve made some updates to the directory of shops so it may be with a second glance. Following on from these exciting retail discoveries, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite picks from some of the stores in this area. yellow chair |… Read more »
Dubai residents, is it just me or have you noticed that there is somewhat of a home and garden district, if we can call it that, popping up along the Al Barsha side of Umm Suqeim Road? If you haven’t already clocked this delightful collection of stores cropping up along the service road that runs towards Al Khail Road, trust me, there is a lot of good stuff happening around there. One of the first big attractions to arrive in this area of newly finished commercial… Read more »
