This feels like a confession of sorts, but I have this thing I love doing on Pinterest. I guess you could call it a guilty pleasure. I call it Ikea spotting. It’s a weird thrill I get when I see a beautiful, stylish room that looks super chic and totally unaffordable… until I spot the Ikea in the room. And trust me, I’m like a trained bloodhound in this particular area. It’s a glimmer of hope that makes ‘that look’ seem suddenly tangible and within reach.

The moral of this story is that you don’t have to break the bank to make your home look good. It’s a true story that I’m known for preaching, and its why I love the art of decorating. Knowing where to spend your money and which items require a higher quality versus those that simply need a good aesthetic is key.

If you’re wondering what prompted this post, you can blame the Ikea part sale! I was having a look at it earlier and noticed that some of my favourite items are on sale. Which got me thinking about my Ikea spotting habit and put an instant smile on my face. There is no denying the joy in spotting a bargain.

Here’s a round up of a few of my favourites. The first two of which are currently on sale.

IKEA PS CABINET

I used one of the metal cabinets in my son’s room makeover a few months ago and I love what it does for the space.

IKEA EKBY JÄRPEN/ EKBY GÄLLÖ SHELVING COMBINATION

If you are on a budget, then this is the closest you’re going to get the the coveted ‘string shelving’ system. I am however in a slight panic as I can’t find the items on my local Ikea site.

IKEA BESTÅ SYSTEMS

These frames and cabinets are so versatile – they come a variety of depths, heights and colours, but I only have eyes for the white. The can stand on the floor or hang from the wall.

To make the most of the Ikea part sale, I recommend reversing the ikea spotting game. Take a look at the sale items, and if you see something you think you might like, copy the name, paste it into the search field in Pinterest and enjoy browsing a plethora of ideas on how to use and style that particular piece.

I love my Docksta table, and the best part is I got it on Craigslist in perfect condition for 60 dollars.
