I am terribly bored of our dining room. It is in desperate need of some attention and sprucing up – has been for some time now. Everything in there is simply functional and not particularly pretty or inspiring. I think it may even be bordering on drab. I think what’s really bothering me is that it is all dark wood in there while the rest of the house has been lightened and brightened bit by bit over the past year. Safe to say it is just one of those rooms that I haven’t gotten around to fiddling with, but I’ve decided that I really do need to get on to it (a New Year’s resolution, perhaps?) so for now, I am at the very least starting to put some thought into this project.
As the dining room leads on to the lounge area, I need to keep the color schemes aligned. My lounge is light and neutral with accents of my current favorite color, duck egg blue, which for me, is precisely as the name suggests, any shade that resembles the greenish/blueish shades of ducks’ eggs.
Seriously, what is not to love about those eggs? They exude a sense of calm and serenity. Who would have thought that said eggs would be inspiring interiors across the globe and filling boards on Pinterest. Clever little ducks.
So, with my color palette in mind, I’ve started to trawl the ‘interweb’ for ideas and inspiration. Here’s a look at some things I like so far…
I know for sure that this project is going to involve the painting of furniture because all the existing pieces are dark and some of them will have to be lightened up. I don’t mind a mix of light, dark and colour when it comes to wooden furniture, but the trick will be deciding what will change and what will stay as it is. I think I may enlist the help of my close friend and style maven, Jacqui, who’s just launched her beautiful blog, Brooke Eva… take a look and you’ll see why!
