IKEA Stockholm 2017 collection

Ikea is about to launch the 2017 Stockholm collection and believe me when I say you want to see this. There are over 40 new items in the recurrent Stockholm series, including sofas, coffee tables, vases, pillows, rugs and lamps, but there are a few pieces in particular that have caught my eye. Let’s start with this rattan cabinet designed by Nike Karlsson, shall we? Is it just me, or is this also one of the hottest pieces you’ve ever seen coming out… Read more »

White Moss Decor

This post comes with a warning. It may be harmful to your wallet because when you see what I am about to show you, you’re going to want all the beautiful things. A few months ago, a friend told me about this exciting new concept called White Moss and I’ve been following their Instagram feed with anticipation ever since. What is White Moss, you ask? Well, its a brand new online home decor store and it’s all kinds of aaaaaah-mazing! During the… Read more »

Scene and Heard | Part 1

Say hello to a brand new feature around here. It’s called Scene & Heard and it’s essentially a round up of what can only be described as snippets of the information overload in my head. Thanks to many hours spent out and about and on the interwebs sourcing products for client deigns, I come across so much information and many cool new things, often not really enough to substantiate a full blog post, but intriguing enough to warrant a mention. Admittedly,… Read more »

Micro Trend: Wire Chairs

There’s a new micro trend on my radar – super cool wire chairs reminiscent of the late 70s and early 80s. Don’t you just love them? Traditionally reserved for outside patios (and I would know as I have fond childhood memories of them that include actual imprints in my flesh), nowadays, these mesh beauties are becoming key interior furniture pieces. It seems that designers are revisiting ideas from the past with a definite movement towards a ‘back-to-basics’ philosophy – think Scandi minimalism meets mid-century modern. As Tim McKeough from… Read more »

Chunky Knits

Anyone noticed how chunky knits are having their moment under the spotlight in the world of interiors? A quick glance at Pinterest will provide all the reassurance you need to know that these dramatically bulky weaves are on fleek. And by on fleek I mean bang on trend. Trust me, I had to look it up. Knitted homewares have become part of the handmade revolution. Even celebrities have been seen knitting and this craft revival didn’t take long to extend to stylish home decor items. Forget the old scarft and… Read more »

Light it up with neon signage

Happy New Year, my lovelies! I hope that you all had a fabulous festive season and are ready to tackle 2016 head on. If you’re looking for ways in which to make some decor changes, or just light up your new year in general, I have my eye on a trend that may be just the thing for you – neon signage! Traditionally used in advertising, neon signage has become popular with many contemporary artists and architects. This trend has made it’s way… Read more »

Last minute Christmas gift Guide

Last minute Christmas gift guide

So we are down to a mere eight sleeps until Christmas and I’ve done precisely no shopping. Like, none. at. all. Hello last minute rush, I’ve not missed one bit. Fun times ahead of me this weekend. For those of you who haven’t clocked it yet – this is the last weekend before Christmas. Somebody slap me. At this point, I need a strong game plan, so I’ve spent the morning having a look around the interwebs for some ideas. Whilst I’ve not been… Read more »

Christmas styling festive decor

A festive collaboration of Christmas styling

If you’ve been a regular around here for some time, you may recall the bloggers collaboration project I was involved in around this time last year. Blogging can be a bit of a solitary mission at times so I jump at the chance to work with like-minded creatives. Joining forces with my dear, and seriously talented friend, Linda at Live Loud Girl for another styled Christmas shoot was a no-brainer. Despite having our own distinctive styles, she and I have a shared love for… Read more »

Go green: Beautiful Botanical Arrangements

I’ve always loved having fresh flowers in my home. It can be an expensive indulgence but it’s one that I ‘allow’ myself as often as I can. I do however like to keep it simple with lots of green – I’ll usually opt for lilies, hydrangeas or roses, but lately, I’m paring things down even further, and quite coincidentally, saving some money in the process.

create a stylish look with a bench and sheepskin

Currently coveting: Bench and Icelandic sheepskin

Don’t you just love this simple yet stylish look? Ideal for a hallway or any little nook in need of some sprucing up. And what I love most (because I’m impatient and want to get it things done asap) is that it can be achieved with minimal effort.

round hanging mirror with strap

Micro trend: Round mirrors

Have you spotted the little upward trend of using round mirrors – particularly the suspended variety, and often with leather straps? Don’t you love it? I’m already scheming about where I can install one of these retro beauties…. and I’ve spotted something similar on sale at The Bowery Co. this week! Have a good one. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

A Swedish country home

Just thought I’d share a look at this home I’ve been obsessing over lately. If you recognise the kitchen in this exquisite country house, it’s because it was a main source of inspiration in a recent post about ideas for my new kitchen project. It all started, as it often does, with a visit to Pinterest. One minute I’m drooling over images of this kitchen and the next thing I know, I am on a Swedish real estate website gasping in awe as I get the full tour… Read more »

Nicky mclean studio makeover

Nicky McLean’s photography studio refresh

Nicky McLean is a talented and sought after Dubai-based photographer who specialises in maternity and newborn photography. She has an amazing talent for capturing those fleeting moments when your tiny new bundle looks as though it could still be in the womb. Sadly, I only came to know of Nicky’s work long after my babies were born and I therefore ‘missed the boat’, so to speak, on the baby shoot but I have recently had the pleasure of working with her… Read more »

Jamie Kay blankets and throws

Jamie Kay

I am sure you’ll agree that some things don’t need much in the way of an introduction or explanation – beauty can speak for itself. Like these blankets and throws in cottons and lambswool by NZ-based online retailer, Jamie Kay. The store bears the name of it’s owner, homeware designer and mum-preneur , Jamie. Aren’t they lovely? Whilst I am yet to get my hands on the actual product, you can just imagine how soft and cosy they are. They’re obviously ideal for babies and… Read more »

favourite storage baskets

For the love of baskets

image source My husband loves to tell anyone who’ll listen that I’m a basket case. And frankly, he’s probably right. I’m a bit of a hot mess on any given day lately. What with running around the kids, trying to grow my little decorating empire 😉 , keeping the family fed and watered and generally chasing my tail in 40+ degree heat. I guess I’m just like all the other mums out there… right guys? That said, I like to think that he’s not actually referring… Read more »

The Bowery Company Dubai

The Bowery Company // Giveaway

The Bowery Company is a newly launched, Dubai-based online store that offers a growing collection of what they refer to ‘affordable luxury furniture with an industrial edge’, and frankly, it’s a perfect description. Think old world New York meets contemporary Scandinavian style and you’ll get an idea of the direction this unique new concept is taking. It’s a breath of fresh air, and with plenty of metallics on offer, I was very easily wooed. Here’s my take on a few must haves. I only wish I could… Read more »

Tan leather sofas and couches

Leather seating

Well hello there, my lovelies. Apologies for the long lapse since my last blog post. Things have been busy around here. Moving straight on to today’s topic, something that’s on my mind a lot lately. Leather seating. Of all kinds, including sofas, chairs and poufs. I can’t tell you quite how odd it is for me to find myself gravitating towards leather furniture because when it comes to fabric vs leather, I’ve always been formally placed in the textile camp. Despite the… Read more »

Favourite things: Al Barsha Interiors district, Dubai

Earlier this month I shared a list of new stores I’ve discovered along Umm Sequiem Road in Al Barsha. I’m boldly calling it Dubai’s new interiors district. If you missed it, take a look. For those who’ve already seen it, I’ve made some updates to the directory of shops so it may be with a second glance. Following on from these exciting retail discoveries, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite picks from some of the stores in this area. yellow chair |… Read more »

Esque

South Africans take note! If you haven’t yet discovered Esque, the super-slick online retailer that delivers countrywide, you’re going to thank me for this one. Showcasing an impressive range of local and international brands, this new kid on the interweb seems to be bang on target with it’s selection of cool, contemporary furniture and homewares. As a South African living in Dubai, I love discovering local talent both from back home and here in the UAE, so I was really excited to learn that the founders of Esque are two… Read more »

Herringbone-and-chevrons

Style file: Herringbone & Chevrons

You know how every now and then a particular style or trend catches your eye and you find yourself obsessing about it constantly. Totally normal behavior, right? Well I’ve fallen victim to this phenomenon and I’m laying the blame entirely on herringbone and chevrons – specifically for walls and floors (because I’ve seen about enough of chevron fabrics for now!) Believe me when I say I am having to hold myself back from installing what must be the jewel in the crown of flooring in… wait for it… my… Read more »

Natural Decor

I’m a blatant sucker for all things natural. We’re talking natural fibres, wood, colours, textures, textiles… you name it. If it has any aspect of natural going on, I’m probably sold. This passion of mine has always been (and I suspect will always be) a key focus in my decorating style. I like to keep things light and airy with white in abundance. Less colour, more texture…. is probably a good way to sum it up. Not ideal with the smalls… Read more »
