In my previous post, a full reveal of the Safari Circus nursery we designed and installed for Zahirah Marty, I promised to give you guys a more detailed break-down of the sourcing for this sweet nursery. Dubai entrepreneur, new blogger (at Meet Mrs Marty) and blossoming mum-to-be, Zahirah, has generously agreed to let me share all the details of her new nursery. So if you like what you saw in her baby’s new room, you’re in for a treat. Tribe Dubai | Elephant, cactus… Read more »
A few weeks ago the lovely Zahirah Marty, of the recently launched mummy & lifestyle blog, Meet Mrs Marty (a must see), contacted me to discuss a special project that she needed help with – creating a nursery for her baby boy. I hadn’t designed a nursery in a while and was really excited to take this on. Zahirah and her hubby didn’t have any particular or preconceived ideas in mind so I was afforded free reign with the design pitch and lucked out with one of… Read more »
My lovelies, it’s here! After many hours of searching, sourcing and corresponding with some of our favourite retailers, we have our 2016 gift guides ready for you. First up – the smalls. Putting together the Christmas gift guide for the kiddos was so much fun. We have selected a wide range of adorable things including wooden toys and funky clothing and of course some decor items as well. Limiting this guide to only 12 gifts was a real challenge for us. Twelve days of Christmas… Read more »
A few weeks ago, I ordered some gorgeous bed linen for Ethan’s room and wanted to let you in on this awesome find! This room is a space in our new home which you probably haven’t seen much of yet. That’s because I’ve had a real decorating block with it. Yes, that happens. I don’t know why, but this room in particular has been a real struggle for me. The space is a lot smaller than his last bedroom, so we had… Read more »
During the summer I attended a workshop at the Falaknaz Warehouse – an introduction to the “Annie Sloan Method”. This workshop covered the basics of what you’d need to know when attempting your first foray into the world of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It is called chalk paint because of its beautiful velvety, matt finish. The magic of this paint is that it rarely requires any prep work (because honestly, prep work is enough to put anyone off their DIY) and can be used indoors, outdoors and… Read more »
Earlier this month, we installed a nursery in a beautiful Downtown Dubai apartment for the sweetest baby girl. She’s been sleeping in mum and dad’s room until now, but it was time for the big transition into her own space. Mum had a pretty good idea of what she wanted for the nursery – a calm and tranquil space for her daughter to grow into. A room design always has a starting point, and for this room, there was one particular feature that I had in… Read more »
I’m so excited to show you this adorable room which we recently installed. The makeover was a surprise birthday gift for a sweet ten year old from her mum and dad. Mum sent me a video of the moment she revealed the room. Safe to say, it was one of those delightfully emotional moments. There were tears. The good kind. And for me, it was so rewarding to see the joy on her face. Kelsey is approaching her teen years and… Read more »
My lovelies, it’s been so long. Apologies for the radio silence around here – it’s been a very busy few weeks with lots of exciting projects on the horizon. You’ll be seeing more of that on the blog soon, but for now, I have something good to share. I couldn’t contain my excitement when I spotted a new online furniture store, Ebarza a few weeks ago. Another stylish online option has arrived in Dubai and it’s looking like we may soon be spoiled for choice. Ebarza retails well-priced… Read more »
Finally, my five and a half year old has a big bed. Poor kid, has been in the running for a makeover for ages but for various reasons it kept being delayed and neglected. Then the Dubai Shopping Festival swung around and I spotted a gorgeous blush pink bed at an excellent sale price – it was the catalyst for my carpe diem revelation. And so I just ran with the whole idea from there. Rather oddly, the style of the bed is pretty… Read more »
Yesterday I got a peek at an almost finished boys room that is a result of an e-design I completed a few months ago. It’s always so exciting to see a design come to life and I thought you guys would enjoy having a look at a mood board along with it’s end result. Excuse the not so great pic taken on my phone. This room was designed for a little tot who will soon transition from a cot to a big boy bed, so the brief was to incorporate… Read more »
If you’ve not heard of Little Majlis, and you’re not already shopping there, let’s fix that today, shall we? Little Majlis is a Dubai-based, specialist online marketplace for handmade and artisan products, marketed by Gulf-based artists, designers, and crafters. Founded by dynamic business duo, Anna Bolton-Riley and Annabelle Fitzsimmons, it’s basically the Etsy of this region and it’s pretty awesome. Always on the lookout for unique homewares, Little Majlis is one of my go-to sites for decor sourcing. I love the fact that… Read more »

Ethan’s room got a makeover last week! Despite being executed rather suddenly, plans for this had been in the making for a while. A few months ago, he fell in love with a monochrome mood board I had created for another boy his age and he asked if we could do something similar for his room. I’ve wanted to make changes to his bedroom for ages so it didn’t take much to convince me, and since then it’s been a regular talking point… Read more »
It seems I am experiencing a sudden wave of broodiness (WTF?) and I place the blame firmly on Instagram, because that’s where I stumbled across Boramiri. This adorable boutique has me wanting to decorate a nursery right now! Bora Lee is a Parisienne illustrator and graphic designer with Korean origins. Inspired by both worlds, she uses French fabrics and Korean design to produce her outrageously cute collection of dolls and room accessories for kids and babies. I need those little deer in my life. And… Read more »
I am sure you’ll agree that some things don’t need much in the way of an introduction or explanation – beauty can speak for itself. Like these blankets and throws in cottons and lambswool by NZ-based online retailer, Jamie Kay. The store bears the name of it’s owner, homeware designer and mum-preneur , Jamie. Aren’t they lovely? Whilst I am yet to get my hands on the actual product, you can just imagine how soft and cosy they are. They’re obviously ideal for babies and… Read more »
I’ve recently had the pleasure of working on an e-design bedroom makeover for a sweet young lady on the brink of her teens. The brief from the young lass was one that put me slightly out of my super neutral comfort-zone. She was after something fun and fresh, and it had to have lots of bright colours. GULP. Despite my initial concern about the style being a challenge for me, I found myself really enjoying the look and feel of the mood board which… Read more »
Let’s have a show of hands for all the stationery lovers out there! … yup, I’m feeling you guys. If you’re anything like me, and the mere mention of stationery gets your heart racing a little (and somewhat awkwardly) faster than necessary, then you need to know about Typo. Australia’s favourite gifts and stationery brand has not only arrived in the region, but they’ve opened the Middle East’s first flagship Typo store at Dubai’s fabulous new Boxpark retail complex. As you’ve no… Read more »
My lovelies, I’m back! As you might have gathered, I’ve been on a little blogging vacay whilst at home in South Africa for three weeks. I made a rather impromptu decision to fly to Cape Town to surprise one of my besties for her 40th birthday party. With the kids Easter break thrown in, my quick trip turned into a rather lovely and lengthly holiday. We moved around a bit between the Cape and my home province, KwaZulu Natal – it was really… Read more »
Last week I styled a nursery scene in a photoshoot for a baby brand. It was a wonderful project to be a part of, and as always, I had such fun sourcing decor pieces. I got my first up close and personal look at the exquisite rugs from Australian brand, Armadillo & Co. I had noticed the rugs on Instagram and heard great things about them from a friend and fellow blogger, but this was the first time I’d actually got to see and… Read more »
I recently had the pleasure of working on an exciting decorating project with British mum-of-three-adorable-smalls, Dani Wilson. The lovely Dani is one mega multi-tasking mama. Not only is she a co-founder of Sassy Mama Dubai, she also runs a successful PR business and has founded a charity in Pakistan called the ZB Foundation, which provides free screening tests for all new born babies. When Dani got in touch to ask if I could assist with a full room makeover for her adorable little twins, Rio… Read more »
South Africans take note! If you haven’t yet discovered Esque, the super-slick online retailer that delivers countrywide, you’re going to thank me for this one. Showcasing an impressive range of local and international brands, this new kid on the interweb seems to be bang on target with it’s selection of cool, contemporary furniture and homewares. As a South African living in Dubai, I love discovering local talent both from back home and here in the UAE, so I was really excited to learn that the founders of Esque are two… Read more »
Wowzers, it cat believe its Friday – and basically the end of May too! Is anyone else completely stunned that we are almost half way through this year? Remember those days as a kid, when a year felt like a lifetime. Sigh….those really were the days.
So, on the subject of kids, my roundup for this month features some of my favorite pieces for little boys’ rooms.
You’ve probably realized by now that I love discovering new design talent (who doesn’t?), so I’m pleased to say its been a good week in that regard. Today I’m showcasing my latest find: Alex Latimer – an illustrator, writer and picture book maker living in Cape Town.
Wow, it’s Thursday again. It’s been a quiet week on the blog thanks to a few of other projects that have me spinning like a hamster on a wheel in the background here. I hope yours has been a good one so far.
Today’s topic is nursery decor – something that is, very sadly, almost all gone in our home. My daughter will need to upgrade to a ‘big girl’ bed soon and with that, all traces of her baby room will no doubt be gone. Sob. But for anyone who’s yet to embark on this fun adventure, it seems criminal not to introduce you to Sharon Montrose’s Animal Print Shop. I only wish I had known of this woman’s truly incredible work five years ago.
As if Christmas week wasn’t exciting enough, our extended family was recently blessed with an adorable new arrival. My cousin, Ryan, and his beautiful wife, Stacey, welcomed their firstborn – a bouncing baby boy – into the world just a few days before Christmas. They named him Chase Clarke Patterson. Love it! Welcome to the world, little guy. Could you be any cuter? Ryan and Stacey visited Dubai a few months ago and I got to spend some time with… Read more »
