Big bubble light by Alex de Witte

Style file: Exposed light bulbs

Exposed light bulbs. Who knew I could have such a thing for these babies? They definitely don’t sit within my usual sense of order… anyone who knows me would agree that I should be inclined to put a shade on it, but strange as it is, I am seeing them all over and I am loving them. Like, really loving them. A lot. It all started a few weeks ago whilst researching another post, I stumbled quite coincidentally, as you… Read more »

DIY: Painted African baskets

Since living away from home, I seem to have some sort of subliminal urge to incorporate bits of Africa into my decor. I guess its partly a comfort thing but it also has a lot to do with my love of textures and an appreciation for the unique and irregular nature of handmade items. Woven baskets are an absolute favorite of mine, not only for practical storage purposes but also as wall art. When displayed as ‘art’, these baskets offer… Read more »

A touch of teal: Dulux color of the year 2014

Admittedly, it took some for me to fully embrace the trend, but now that I am on board, I can’t help but love the versatile use of antlers in an… Read more »

Afro-chic outdoor area

Afro-chic outdoor area

I thought I would share with you some images of my brother and his wife’s charming and rustic pool/entertainment area where I recently spent some time. I call it rustic, because it really is, in every sense of the word – they live in the middle of the bush on a private game reserve. I absolutely love this space with its practical design and exquisite view of the open plains. And the odd wild animal dotted around the garden certainly… Read more »

Off the radar

It’s been a while since I posted something here so apologies for my absence. In the early hours of 25 January I received the devastating news that my father had passed away. We left immediately for South Africa and the almost three weeks that followed have been somewhat of a blur. It’s the news you dread your whole life and all of a sudden it became my reality. The trip home was deeply emotional and mentally exhausting, but it was also… Read more »
